  • Landscaping Plants for Front of House | Done-In-A-Weekend Projects: Layer Up II | YouTube

Join landscape designer and Done-In-A-Weekend Projects host Doug Scott for front yard landscaping ideas that’ll help give your home the grand entrance it deserves. Similar to a painting, you should have a background, a middle ground, and a foreground when layering plants in your plant bed. Here are some important takeaways you should be mindful of about each layer: Background layer This is your backdrop. Use an evergreen shrub that stands taller than the other layers. In this video, Doug shows an entire front porch that is fronted by a boxwood hedge, starting with a larger boxwood on each end. These boxwoods provide an evergreen background layer that will boost your curb appeal no matter what time of year it is. Middle ground layer This layer sits lower than the background layer and gives you a chance to add more personality with interesting shapes and contrasting colors. In this video, Doug shows an entrance with lavender - a fairly hearty herbaceous perennial. Eventually, this plant will grow to about two feet tall with beautiful blue-green leaves and purple flowers that are a nice contrast against the dark evergreen background. Lavender also provides a great scent! Foreground layer This is where you add some color to make it pop and bring all the layers together. In this video, they choose to plant verbena. When it matures it will form a low carpet of green and white, punctuating the homeowner's front entrance and greeting each of their guests. This layer requires the most maintenance, as you will need to switch out your annuals as the seasons change. Get creative with colors! Follow these tips and you'll have a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing entrance to your home that will have the neighbor's jealous. The best part of this project? You'll be Done-In-A-Weekend! • Grilled Antelope Medallions | Prime Cuts Wild Game | YouTube

Join Prime Cuts Wild Game Edition host David Bancroft for a taste of North American Super Slam winner Joe Thomas' favorite hunt-camp meal: grilled antelope medallions. Joe brings fresh antelope medallions from his most recent hunt in Wyoming to the Prime Cuts grill. The medallions he brought had a deep red color and were butterflied for cooking. He uses a simple marinade that uses olive oil, low-sodium soy sauce, and Montreal steak sauce. The antelope medallions are marinated overnight but no more than 24 hours in the refrigerator. Now it's time to heat up the grill; Joe recommends to quickly searing the meat to keep it tender on the inside. To add more flavor to the mix, David makes sautés blue oyster mushroom and combines them with a beef stock gravy to top the medallions off. David pairs the seared antelope medallions with two delicious sides. First up is his fingerling roasted potatoes with salt and pepper that he puts in the wood-burning oven. For the second side, he grills up asparagus. Both compliment the antelope medallions with their rich earthy flavors. • Lawn Watering Tips: How Much and How Often | Backyard Smart: Make it Rain | YouTube

Everyone knows watering your lawn is essential, but the question is, are you doing it right? This Backyard Smart video has tips to help you water your lawn. Watering your lawn shouldn't only be done just in the summer, but year-round as needed. Common mistakes are watering every day with very little water; instead, water deeply 2-3 times a week. Place a tuna can on your lawn and when it is half full, shut off the water. The best time to water the lawn is during the day. A damp lawn at night leads to fungus and disease. • How to Clean the Mower Deck of Your Exmark Mower | Exmark Mowers

Cleaning the mower deck of your Exmark lawnmower is critical to it running at peak performance and keep that high-quality cut. A dirty and clogged mower deck prevents blades from properly cutting the grass due to the lack of airflow to discharge clippings. Maintaining your mower deck every day is easy with a few tools and an air compressor. Clean the top of the deck using an air compressor removing grass from belts and pullies and out of crevices. Don't use a pressure washer because the water can cause premature damage to the ball bearings and other parts. On the bottom side, you'll want to remove the blades for easy access. Now you can begin to clean the bottom of the deck. You'll likely have more grass buildup on the bottom of the deck. Our experts suggest using a flat bar and putty knife for the job. They can easily remove grass and get into hard-to-reach areas of the deck. While you have your mower in maintenance mode, inspect our Exmark mower for damage and do other maintenance. • How to Stripe a Lawn | Done-In-A-Weekend Projects: Mow Like A Pro II | YouTube

Brian Latimer and Doug Scott show how to give your lawn those lovely stripes by installing a lawn striping kit. Brian also answers some frequently asked questions about striping. Brian explains the reason why you want to stripe your lawn is for that professional look. Striping also reduces compacting to help with the health of your lawn. Lastly, when striping your lawn, it helps with equaling out sun penetration. Each time you mow, you go in the opposite direction, so the blades lay on the opposite side. When maneuvering the mower, brian tries to find something that will help maintain a straight line. Another question Brian answers are multiple passes necessary? He explains that they can darken the stripes but also cause compacting of the dirt. He suggests the alternative of installing a striping kit that will allow you to do it in one pass. Brian shows how a striping kit is installed by taking his Exmark Mower to an Exmark dealer. He and the dealer's service manager go over each part of the kit and assemble the parts. The last thing to do is have it attached to the deck. Doug Scott and Joe Lamp'l show how you can start composting in your backyard by building compost bins with pallets. This DIY project is cheap, easy, and saves you money. Joe suggests building three composting bins for creating a three-bin system to get the most out of your composting. The system allows you to continue adding materials while giving you access to the compost that is ready to be used in your garden. • What Makes Exmark Belts Different - Exmark Original Parts

Exmark Original Parts are built to be durable and the best. Our belts stand out from the rest by delivering the power needed for Exmark's signature quality of cut. Each belt is designed to meet requirements for a specific application and fit a certain model for optimal performance. Most after market parts are built for one belt to fit multiple models. Knowing when to replace your belt is just as important as the parts you use. Before the season starts, do a maintenance check on the mowers looking for weathering, cracks, general wear and tear. • String Light Patterns for Your Backyard | Done-In-A-Weekend Projects: Illuminating Ideas | YouTube

Join landscape designer and Done-In-A-Weekend Projects host Doug Scott to see five string light patterns that will brighten your patio and yard. Adding light to an outdoor space can be pretty involved and expensive project. Doug offers up an alternative solution that involves a couple of strings of lights and is cheaper. Research is essential to any DIY project; determine the style you want, how long, and many strands of lights you'll need. You'll also need an extension cord and hardware that is outdoor grade. Before you purchase your materials, sketch the pattern on a piece of paper to determine if you are purchasing the correct amount of lights and hardware. Consider crisscrossing the light patterns for a more relaxed look; this pattern may require more strands. If you are looking for a more uniform style, place the strands on the perimeter. Next, measure out the distance for each pass and add a couple of feet for slack. Now it's time to hang the strands without lightbulbs and placing the first strand near an outlet. After your done, place a lightbulb in each string to see if it lights up. If it does, you are good to go and can screw in the rest of the light bulbs. • How to Determine Mowing Height | Backyard Smart: The Height is Right | YouTube

Having your lawnmower's deck at the right height is essential for the life of your lawn. Cutting too short or too long can damage the grass. Knowing the type of grass determines how high or low the cutting deck should be during the season. Mow cool-season grasses between 2.5-3.5 inches and warm-season grasses .5-1.5 inches. Remember cutting your grass blade more than a third of its height is too much. Weather and the time of year are something to consider when determining the height of the grass.
